Saudi Arabia has issued a statement expressing “deep concern” over the ongoing military operations in the Red Sea region and airstrikes targeting various locations in Yemen.
In a statement released by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Saudi Press Agency, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia emphasized its strong concern regarding the military operations in the Red Sea region and the airstrikes conducted on several sites within the Republic of Yemen.
The statement underscored the importance of maintaining security and stability in the Red Sea region, where freedom of navigation is a global demand, and any disruption could impact the interests of the entire world.
Saudi Arabia called for restraint and the avoidance of further escalation in light of the events unfolding in the region.
The airstrikes in question, according to a US official speaking to Al Arabiya, targeted more than 12 Houthi militia-related objectives, striking five Yemeni provinces under Houthi control.
These strikes marked a significant development as the United States and the United Kingdom initiated attacks against Houthi-related targets in Yemen for the first time since the group began targeting ships in the Red Sea late last year.
A total of five airstrikes were reported in Sanaa, Hodeidah, Taiz, Dhamaar, and Saada in Yemen, as per our Al Arabiya correspondent.
Additionally, American and British forces carried out airstrikes in Yemen’s Hodeidah city, and later in the day, renewed airstrikes were reported in the city.
The correspondent further noted that five airstrikes targeted Brigade 22 in Taiz city, and three airstrikes hit Taiz Airport. Hodeidah Airport and the Kilometer 16 area were also subjected to airstrikes.
The government of Yemen confirmed that four airstrikes were conducted on the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.
Furthermore, the city of Hodeidah was also subjected to shelling, along with Dhamaar and Saada.
These developments have raised significant concerns about the ongoing situation in Yemen and the Red Sea region, with the international community closely monitoring the evolving situation.
