The Algerian Civil Protection Services declared that all forest fires that have affected several Algerian states have been successfully extinguished. The continuous surveillance efforts are still ongoing to prevent any potential reoccurrence of the fires.
In previous remarks, the Algerian Ministry of Interior affirmed that these positive results were achieved thanks to the effective aerial interventions carried out by firefighting aircraft.
On Wednesday, the Algerian authorities announced their success in extinguishing 80% of the fires. The Algerian news agency reported that the Civil Protection services managed to bring the majority of the fires under control, affecting around 80% of multiple states.
This remarkable achievement was attributed to the relentless commitment, coordinated field operations, and shared resources among the states.
Efforts are still underway to completely extinguish the remaining fires and to closely monitor the areas where the fires have been contained.
Algeria has been facing extreme temperatures, with the mercury soaring close to 50 degrees Celsius.
Last Monday, localized temperatures of 48 degrees Celsius were recorded in five eastern states: Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, El Tarf, and Guelma. These states were issued an orange-level warning.
The demand for electricity also reached record levels, peaking at 18,697 megawatts.
