Saudi Arabia has appointed its ambassador to Jordan, Naif bin Bandar Al-Sudairi, as an extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to Palestine and as a consul general in Jerusalem.
According to a statement released by the Saudi Embassy in Jordan, “His Excellency Naif bin Bandar Al-Sudairi, Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, handed over today, Saturday, a copy of his credentials as an extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to the State of Palestine and as a consul general in the city of Jerusalem, to the Palestinian President’s Advisor for Diplomatic Affairs, Dr. Majdi Al-Khalidi.”
The credential handover ceremony took place at the Palestinian Embassy in the Jordanian capital, Amman, and was attended by the Palestinian Ambassador to Jordan, Atallah Khairy.
With this appointment, Al-Sudairi becomes the first Saudi Arabian ambassador to Palestine.
Following the ceremony, the two sides discussed the various aspects of the existing bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, as well as ways to enhance and develop these relations across all fields.
These developments come at a time when Western media reports have discussed the Biden administration’s efforts to reach a major agreement with Saudi Arabia, which could potentially involve normalization with Israel.
On Wednesday, the White House announced that there is no agreed-upon framework to achieve an agreement where Saudi Arabia recognizes Israel.
It emphasized the need for extensive negotiations before such an agreement is signed. This announcement followed hours after the publication of a report by the “Wall Street Journal,” stating that the US and Saudi Arabia had agreed on the broad outlines of a normalization agreement with Tel Aviv.
