The Russian Defense Ministry announced that its air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 87 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory during the night.

In a statement released on Friday, the ministry detailed an attempted Ukrainian drone attack targeting multiple regions within the Russian Federation. The ministry reported that vigilant air defense systems successfully thwarted the attacks.

The ministry specified that air defense systems intercepted and destroyed:

Earlier, the Governor of Russia’s Rostov region, Vasily Golubev, announced early Friday that Russian air defenses had repelled a large-scale drone attack in the Rostov region. Initial reports indicated no injuries.

Golubev shared on his official Telegram account: “Air defense forces successfully repelled a large-scale drone attack over the Rostov region.”

He added, “The drones were destroyed in several residential areas of the region, and according to preliminary information, no casualties were reported. The aftermath on the ground is being assessed.”

In the early hours of Friday, the acting governor of Russia’s Kursk region, Alexey Smirnov, reported the destruction of five Ukrainian drones over the Kursk region by Russian air forces.

Smirnov posted on Telegram: “Air defense fighters shot down five Ukrainian drones in the skies over Kursk.”

Earlier today, Smirnov had warned of a potential drone threat in the Kursk region.

This marks one of the latest incidents in the ongoing conflict, highlighting the persistent aerial engagements and the escalating use of drone technology in the Russia-Ukraine war.
