Russia has issued a stark warning to Israel, urging it not to even consider striking Iran’s nuclear facilities, according to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, as reported by TASS on Thursday.
Following Iran’s missile attack on Israel on October 1, there has been speculation about a possible Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear infrastructure, a move Israel has long threatened. Ryabkov emphasized that such an action would be disastrous and a violation of nuclear safety principles.
He added, “We have repeatedly warned and continue to warn Israel against even hypothetically considering a strike on Iranian nuclear facilities.”
Israel and its Western allies have long expressed concerns about Iran developing nuclear weapons under the guise of a civilian energy program, which Tehran denies.
While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office acknowledged that Israel would consider the advice of the U.S., it stressed that Israel would ultimately act in its own national interest.
Ryabkov also noted that Russia remains in regular contact with Iran, and the two nations have deepened their ties since the start of the Ukraine conflict, with plans to sign a major partnership agreement in the near future.
