The Kremlin issued a stern warning to the European Union on Friday regarding its intentions to impose tariffs on Russian grain exports and utilize proceeds from frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine militarily.
With Ukraine urging Europe to cut off all revenue streams for Russia amid ongoing airstrikes and disruptions to crucial aid deliveries, EU leaders have signaled a willingness to explore using seized Russian assets to arm Ukraine while considering tariffs on Russian grain imports.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov expressed concerns about the proposed EU duty on grain, warning of adverse effects on European consumers and denouncing it as an example of unfair competition.
Regarding Brussels’ plans for seized Russian assets, Peskov cautioned of “serious consequences” for those involved in implementing such measures.
EU member states have been embroiled in debates for months over the fate of frozen Russian assets, most of which were seized following Moscow’s military incursion into Ukraine.
