Russian and Turkish military personnel have commenced joint patrols in northeastern Syria, marking the implementation of a Russian-Turkish memorandum of understanding.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the patrols took place in the Hasakah province near the city of Qamishli.

According to Russian military spokesperson Georgy, the joint convoy covered a distance of over 30 kilometers in one hour, monitoring the situation in the area.

Over 40 military personnel and eight military vehicles from both countries participated in the patrol. The convoy was escorted by Russian Ka-52 and Mi-8 helicopters.

The Russian military confirmed that the patrol proceeded smoothly, with no incidents reported.

The joint patrol involved a meeting at the “Shirk” checkpoint, with the Russian contingent featuring armored vehicles including “Tiger” and “Typhoon” models, while the Turkish side provided Kirpi armored vehicles.

The primary objective of these joint patrols is to monitor the situation and prevent the resumption of armed conflict. Russian and Turkish troops conducted a visual inspection of the area within 10 kilometers of the border.

The Ministry of Defense stated that the joint patrols reaffirm the role of Russian forces in Syria as a stabilizing factor, contributing to peace and security in the region.
