Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev issued a warning on Sunday, stating that any British soldiers engaged in training Ukrainian troops within Ukraine would be considered legitimate targets for Russian forces. He also indicated that German factories producing Taurus missiles, if supplying Kyiv, could be targeted as well. Medvedev, who currently serves as the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, has been known for taking a hawkish and anti-Western stance in recent times.
The statement was made in response to British Defence Minister Grant Shapps’ comments about the UK’s intention to deploy military instructors to Ukraine and provide training to Ukrainian armed forces. Medvedev, in a post on Telegram, threatened that such activities by Western forces were escalating tensions and bringing the world closer to a potential World War Three.
However, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak later clarified that there were no immediate plans to deploy military instructors to Ukraine. He stated that Shapps’ comments were suggesting the possibility of conducting training in Ukraine at some point in the future. The situation highlights the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region and the complex dynamics between Russia and Western nations.
