The Russian government has approved a request from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Economic Development to impose certain restrictions on grain exports, including hard wheat, to support stability in the domestic market.

The Russian government has endorsed a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Agriculture to temporarily ban the export of hard wheat from Russia for a period of six months, from December 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024.

Additionally, the Russian government stated in its announcement that it supported limiting the export quota of essential grains to 24 million tons, including wheat, barley, and corn.

According to the statement, export restrictions do not apply to supplies to the Eurasian Economic Union countries, which include Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan.

Earlier this month, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia had shifted from being an importer to an exporter of agricultural products and now ranks among the world’s leading exporters of these products.

He emphasized that Russia would maintain its position in the global wheat market this year and would be able to provide around 60 million tons of wheat to global food markets.
