Russia’s defense ministry announced on Sunday that its forces have captured the village of Berestove in the northeastern Kharkiv region, describing the move as a result of “successful combat actions.”
Berestove is strategically situated on the eastern front line, adjacent to the Lugansk region, which is almost entirely under Russian control.
This recent offensive marks Russia’s largest territorial gains in the area for the past 18 months.
Earlier this month, Russia initiated an aggressive campaign in the northern part of the Kharkiv region, near the Russian border, aiming to consolidate and expand its control.
On the other hand, Ukrainian authorities reported on Friday that while they had initially halted the Russian advance, Moscow is now intensifying its military efforts in other parts of the front.
Ukraine claims to be counter-attacking in response to the escalated Russian military activities, striving to regain control and stabilize the situation in the affected regions.
