For the first time since the outbreak of hostilities in mid-April between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the war has reached one of the states in Eastern Sudan. The area near Al Faw, located 62 kilometers from the state capital, Al Qadarif, witnessed fierce clashes and confrontations between a convoy of the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese Army.
In Al Faw locality, within Al Qadarif state, intense encounters unfolded between the opposing forces, including a small military garrison. State sources revealed that the Rapid Support Forces initiated a military operation near the region and ambushed an army unit in Al Bawaida village in Al Faw locality.
According to a statement by the Youth Assembly of Al Qadarif State, the Army managed to advance in areas of Eastern Al Jazirah and confronted a force from the Rapid Support Forces, which intended to attack the city of Al Faw. However, the Army successfully repelled the attack and scattered the opposing elements.
Further details from the statement indicated that the Rapid Support Forces gathered and moved from Wad Madani city and Village 40, approximately 70 kilometers from Al Faw, motivated by revenge. Nonetheless, the Army, with the help of the vigilant, managed to set a well-planned ambush, inflicting significant losses on the attackers. The Army also reinforced its positions with substantial backup and established new bases. Additionally, the local popular resistance in Al Faw locality mobilized its forces and weapons, preparing vehicles to support the Army against any new threats. The statement concluded by noting the return of calm to Al Faw city and its villages following the cessation of hostilities.
