The Qatari Amiri Diwan reported that the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, discussed with the head of the Political Bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, the developments in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories. In a post on his “X” platform page, the Amiri Diwan stated that the Emir of Qatar discussed with the head of Hamas’s political bureau Qatar’s efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
The Diwan added that Sheikh Tamim, during his meeting with Haniyeh at his office in the Lusail Palace, affirmed Qatar’s support for “the Palestinian people and their cause and the importance of Palestinian unity to obtain their legitimate national rights, foremost of which is their right to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
Media sources reported that the talks on a prisoner and detainee exchange deal were resumed on Sunday in Doha and will be followed by another round in Cairo with the participation of American, Israeli, and Hamas officials.
The White House also announced yesterday that the United States, Israel, Egypt, and Qatar had reached an understanding on the basic outlines of the deal.
