President Vladimir Putin has stated that Russia has not yet needed to resort to the use of cluster munitions. However, he warned that if they are used against the country, Russia reserves the right to respond in kind.
The Russian leader added, “Until now, we have not done that, we have not used them (cluster munitions), and we did not have such a need, despite a shortage of ammunition at some point. We do have ammunition, but we haven’t done that.”
Speaking on the United States sending shipments of cluster munitions to Kyiv, Putin said, “They are doing this due to a general shortage of ammunition.”
In an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin, President Putin revealed that “the United States itself has previously described the use of cluster munitions as a crime.” He added, “I believe this is how it should be.”
He further stated, “I would like to say that Russia has a sufficient stock of various types of cluster munitions, of different kinds.” The President’s comments underline Russia’s preparedness while simultaneously issuing a stern warning against any potential aggression involving such weaponry.
