Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued directives to overhaul Russia’s migration policy in response to a recent deadly terrorist attack in suburban Moscow. Speaking on Tuesday, Putin emphasized the need for significant revisions to the country’s approach to migration policy in light of evolving security concerns.

“We must undertake a thorough and comprehensive update of our migration policy,” stated Putin, instructing key government entities such as the interior ministry, law enforcement agencies, and security services to address these matters with urgency.

Furthermore, Putin urged the government to prioritize efforts in combating extremism and illegal migration while simultaneously bolstering internal security measures.

In the aftermath of the terrorist attack, which occurred at the Crocus City Hall concert venue in northwest Moscow on March 22, resulting in a devastating loss of lives and injuries, Putin underscored the importance of identifying the perpetrators and enhancing public safety measures. He emphasized the necessity of fortifying security protocols in locations frequented by large crowds and improving overall emergency preparedness.

“We must recognize that contemporary threats facing Russia, both domestically and internationally, are often interconnected,” Putin asserted.

The attack at the concert venue claimed the lives of at least 144 individuals, with an additional 551 sustaining injuries, according to official reports.
