A total of 12.7 million refugees from Ukraine have crossed the border with Poland since the start of the Russian military operation there, Radio Poland said on Friday citing figures from Poland’s Border Guard agency.

Nearly 28,600 refugees crossed the joint border into Poland over the past 24 hours, while 23,700 Ukrainians returned home Thursday night, it added. Russia announced the start of a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

Poland has been witnessing a significant influx of refugees from Ukraine as a result of the ongoing conflict and military operation in Ukraine. Since the start of the Russian military operation on February 24, 2022, a staggering number of 12.7 million refugees have crossed the border into Poland, seeking safety and shelter from the conflict.

The influx of refugees has put a strain on Poland’s resources, infrastructure, and humanitarian capacities. The Polish government, in collaboration with international organizations and local authorities, has been working to provide assistance and support to these displaced individuals. Temporary camps and shelters have been set up to accommodate the refugees, offering them essential services, including food, healthcare, and protection.

The situation remains dynamic and challenging, with thousands of people crossing the border daily. Poland has been grappling with the task of managing this influx and ensuring the well-being of the refugees while maintaining security and stability within its borders.

The international community has been closely monitoring the situation and offering assistance to Poland in dealing with the refugee crisis. Humanitarian organizations, neighboring countries, and the European Union have extended support, providing aid, resources, and expertise to help alleviate the burden on Poland and ensure the refugees’ well-being.

The impact of the refugee crisis extends beyond humanitarian concerns. It has implications for regional stability, geopolitics, and the relationship between Poland and Ukraine. Poland, as a frontline country receiving a large number of refugees, has been advocating for international solidarity and urging a coordinated response to address the root causes of the conflict and find a peaceful resolution.

As the crisis persists, Poland continues its efforts to manage the influx of refugees, provide humanitarian assistance, and work towards a sustainable solution. The international community’s support and cooperation are crucial in addressing the needs of the displaced population and achieving a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
