Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has urged the European Union to provide financial and military assistance to Ukraine as soon as possible to help Kyiv withstand Russian attacks.
Speaking to Polish Radio on Tuesday, Sikorski expressed hope that EU leaders will agree to provide €50 billion in financial aid to Ukraine by 2027 at the summit scheduled for next week.
He agreed with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba that Kyiv needs ammunition, emphasizing that ‘the more ammunition Ukraine has, the fewer the casualties, and the greater the range of the ammunition, the sooner the war will end.’
The international support provided to Ukraine in its recent war against Russia has been significant and multifaceted. Over the past year, the United States has been at the forefront of this support, working closely with the Ukrainian government to provide what they need. The U.S. support includes a broad range of security assistance, such as anti-armor and anti-air systems, artillery, ammunition, air defense systems, counter-drone capabilities, and armored vehicles. This support has been critical in helping Ukraine defend its territory and counter Russian advances.
Additionally, the U.S. has provided substantial humanitarian aid to Ukraine, addressing critical needs like food, safe drinking water, shelter, and emergency health care. This aid has been vital in supporting the millions of people affected by the conflict, including those who have been forced to flee their homes.
The international community has also rallied to support Ukraine in various ways. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba appealed to the United Nations for continued support and solidarity a year into the conflict. He stressed the importance of sending a strong message in support of Ukraine’s right to self-defense and fighting for its survival against Russian aggression.
The European Union and the United States have urged continued support for Ukraine, emphasizing the need for predictable financing and a sustained supply of weapons. This support is crucial for Ukraine’s ability to defend itself and regain its territory. The European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen highlighted the importance of empowering Ukraine’s resistance and providing the necessary financial and military assistance for its success.
