Dr. Ammar Dweik, Director of the Palestinian Human Rights Authority, commented on the United Nations Security Council’s handling of the aggression on Gaza, stating that the Security Council’s decision-making process is well known.
He explained that five countries hold the power of veto, allowing any one of them to block any resolution to halt the aggression on Gaza.
During an interview on the program “Up Close,” aired on Cairo News Channel and hosted by journalist Amal Al-Hanawi, Dweik highlighted the historical behavior of the United States.
He pointed out that the U.S. has consistently blocked any resolution that could impose sanctions or even direct blame towards Israel.
He further noted, “We have witnessed the blatant American stance clearly since October 7. The United States has shielded Israel from numerous attempts to pass resolutions to stop the war. However, it has agreed to two resolutions: the first concerning humanitarian aid, which was a very diluted resolution to allow humanitarian aid, and the second related to the issue of a ceasefire.”
By emphasizing these points, Dr. Dweik underscored the challenges faced in the international arena, particularly regarding efforts to address and mitigate the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
