Palestinian mixed martial artist Bilal Mohammed clinched a thrilling victory over British fighter Leon Edwards at UFC 304. Employing a strategic approach with a combination of double and triple punches during the offensive phases, Mohammed managed to secure the win despite several challenging moments where Edwards attempted submission tactics. This unanimous decision by the judges crowned Mohammed as the new middleweight champion in mixed martial arts.
Throughout the fight, Mohammed maintained constant pressure on Edwards, pursuing him around the cage, which notably boosted his confidence, especially after overcoming difficulties in the second round that nearly ended the fight in Edwards’ favor. Mohammed dominated the initial two rounds, while Edwards gained an edge in the third. However, Mohammed regained control in the subsequent rounds. In the final round, Edwards delivered a significant elbow strike but ran out of time to stage a comeback.
Edwards acknowledged feeling physically exhausted throughout the fight, stating he felt drained from the first round and had been tired all week. He congratulated Mohammed on completing the task effectively. This victory marked Mohammed’s eleventh consecutive win, placing him second in the highest win rates in the middleweight class, following closely behind Leon Edwards. Mohammed has remained undefeated since January 2019, despite facing competitors not ranked among the top initially, except for Brazilian Gilbert Burns.
This remarkable performance at UFC 304 not only solidified Mohammed’s position in the sport but also highlighted his resilience and tactical acumen in overcoming a seasoned opponent like Edwards.
