The Palestinian Authority (PA) has rejected an Israeli proposal to conditionally reopen the Rafah border crossing, according to a source speaking to Sky News Arabia on Monday.
The source revealed that Israel’s proposal suggested that the Rafah crossing be operated by civilians not affiliated with Palestinian security forces.
Additionally, the Israeli proposal reportedly stipulated that the Palestinian flag would not be raised at the crossing or along the border.
The proposal also included Israel’s insistence on maintaining a presence around the crossing and along the Philadelphi Route, with the right to intervene for inspections and questioning.
The Palestinian Authority, however, has rejected the proposal, insisting on adherence to the 2005 agreement for the operation of the Rafah crossing, which calls for a complete Israeli withdrawal from the area.
