Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman has issued orders for the immediate dispatch of humanitarian aid to the regions devastated by Storm Daniel, which struck eastern Libya over the past two days.
The Libyan Embassy in Oman released a statement confirming the Sultan’s directive to send urgent humanitarian assistance to the areas affected by the storm.
This gesture reflects Oman’s solidarity with the Libyan people during their ordeal caused by the storm.
It also underscores the fraternal relations between the two nations and Oman’s commitment to providing relief to those affected by various natural disasters.
In this context, the residents of the ravaged Libyan city of Derna are searching for their missing loved ones.
Rescue teams are also appealing for more body bags as catastrophic floods claimed the lives of thousands and washed away many into the sea.
The extent of the devastation is starkly visible from the elevated areas above Derna.
The heart of the densely populated city, built along the wide crescent-shaped course of a seasonal river, is now submerged in muddy waters glistening under the sun, with buildings swept away.
Thousands of people have been killed and at least 10,000 are missing after the floods caused by Storm Daniel.
