Aziz Akhannouch, the Prime Minister, has announced the initiation of the first disbursements of direct social support to eligible families, following their registration in the unified social registry and meeting the required criteria.

The government official noted that since its launch earlier this month, the dedicated online portal for this support has received over 1.9 million benefit applications, and this number continues to grow daily.

Starting from December 28th, approximately one million families meeting the threshold criteria in the unified social registry, equivalent to 3.5 million Moroccans, will receive the first installment of this financial support.

The value of this support will not be less than 500 Moroccan Dirhams per family, regardless of its composition. Families that submitted their applications before December 10th and had their files processed will receive this first payment.

Meanwhile, the remaining families that submitted their files after this date will receive their payments in two installments in late January.

Akhannouch emphasized during the government council meeting held today that the application process remains open to eligible families to benefit from direct social support in the future.

He stated that 2023 marks a pivotal year in the implementation of the “social state” agenda, ensuring the financial resources needed to sustain it.

This includes the widespread adoption of mandatory health insurance, direct social support for families in poverty or vulnerability, and support for primary housing acquisition.

Regarding educational system reform, the Prime Minister stated, “Our firm belief is that reforming the sector can only achieve its goals by enhancing the status and roles of teachers.” To this end, the government has sought to build trust with this group by improving their financial and professional status.

An agreement was reached on December 10th to approve a net and general wage increase of no less than 1500 Moroccan Dirhams per month, marking the highest wage increase in the country’s history, costing the state treasury more than 10 billion Dirhams annually.

Akhannouch also touched on the earthquake that struck the country in September of the previous year, highlighting that “thanks to His Majesty’s royal directives, the government successfully transformed challenges into opportunities by ensuring the reconstruction of affected regions and promoting development within them.” He praised the nation’s resilience and its ability to quickly recover and face various challenges, garnering international praise.

In this final meeting of 2023, Akhannouch extended his congratulations to the King and the royal family, as well as extending New Year’s greetings to all Moroccans.

He expressed his hopes for a prosperous year filled with achievements, stability, and prosperity, as well as continued development for the nation.
