On a recent Tuesday, Fawzi Lakjaa, the Deputy Minister to the Minister of Economy and Finance in charge of the Budget, and Ashraf Tarsim, the Resident Representative of the African Development Bank office in Rabat, officiated the signing of three financing agreements with the African Development Bank. The ceremony was attended by Khaled Ait Taleb, Minister of Health and Social Protection, and Younes Sekkouri, Minister of Economic Integration, Small Enterprise, Employment, and Skills.
The agreements, as specified by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, encompassed: a €120 million accord for an Integrated Access Support Program to health infrastructure, a €149 million pact for a Social Coverage Generalization Program aimed at better employability, and a $1 million agreement for an Emergency Assistance Project for the Al Haouz earthquake.
The first program is devised to improve access to quality health services, marking a step towards enhancing the healthcare infrastructure in Morocco.
The second program is targeted at accelerating social protection reforms in Morocco to ensure better integration of the informal sector and the creation of decent job opportunities, alongside bolstering social integration.
The third project aims at aiding the government’s emergency intervention in areas affected by the Al Haouz earthquake, by providing essential necessities like tents, various shelters, blankets, mattresses, medical supplies, water tanks, and mobile sanitary facilities.
The minister lauded the level and quality of cooperation between Morocco and the African Development Bank, expressing gratitude for the valuable support and continuous assistance provided by the bank in essential structural reforms and technical assistance across various sectors.
Post-signing, both the minister and the representative from the African Development Bank affirmed their desire to continue working to enhance this exemplary cooperation, showcasing a promising future for further collaborative ventures between Morocco and the bank.
