Microsoft has unveiled a new feature in Microsoft Paint for Windows 11 that utilizes OpenAI’s DALL-E to convert text into images.

Named “Paint Cocreator,” the tool crafts visuals based on user-provided descriptions. Users can also pick an art style, after which Cocreator provides three different versions.

From there, they can further customize the chosen artwork, adding layers—a novel addition to Paint. There have been concerns with DALL-E’s previous models misinterpreting text input and demonstrating biases related to gender and race.

While Microsoft acknowledged these issues in their blog post, they only vaguely mentioned measures taken to counteract the generation of potentially harmful or offensive images.

The Paint Cocreator is set to be accessible for all Windows 11 users soon, but it’s currently being introduced to Windows Insiders.

Those interested in the preview must sign up for a waitlist and will receive 50 credits, each allowing them to produce a set of images.

This credit system might undergo changes after the preview, hinting at possible future costs for users. Presently, the Cocreator preview is open for English-speaking users in countries like the US, UK, France, Australia, Canada, Italy, and Germany.

This introduction is part of a broader suite of AI-driven features Microsoft is integrating into Windows 11, such as an enhancement in the Photos app that lets users blur backgrounds and focus on specific subjects.

Additionally, there’s the Windows Copilot sidebar, an AI-based assistant for tasks like adjusting PC settings and launching applications.

Microsoft has unveiled a slew of AI-enhanced features for its SwiftKey mobile keyboard app, designed for iOS and Android users.

This third-party app, renowned for its smart keyboard which adapts to individual writing styles for quicker typing, is getting more advanced.

The new offerings include AI camera lenses, AI stickers, an AI-enhanced editor, and a feature to generate AI-based images.

The introduction of AI camera lenses enables users to capture photos, videos, and GIFs with a variety of effects.
