In the world of technology and social networking apps, few have witnessed a meteoric rise and fall like “Threads.” The microblogging app surged to immense popularity, gaining 150 million subscribers in just 10 days since its launch on July 6th. However, the glow began to fade as quickly as it shone, with millions of users becoming inactive only three days after its launch.
Digital transformation and information security expert, Ziad Abdel Tawab, explained to Sky News Arabia the reasons behind the initial rush to “Threads,” the sudden drop in enthusiasm among users, and what this suggests for the future of competing applications, particularly Twitter.
Shocking Decline According to analytics websites SensorTower and SimilarWeb, there has been a 20% decrease in the number of daily active users on the app, coupled with a 50% decline in the time users spend on it.
The General Manager at SensorTower, Anthony Bartolacci, noted that the first three days for “Threads” were distinctive, but this didn’t last. The website observed a significant decrease in user engagement.
This decline comes at a time when “Meta,” the company that owns the app, is updating “Threads” for iPhone devices with a range of new features, according to app developer Cameron Roth. These features include translation services and a dedicated following tab in the activity summary that displays posts from users you follow.
