An English media report has revealed the challenges Lionel Messi, the star of Inter Miami, might face in participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics with the Argentine national team. Argentina qualified for the Paris Olympics after defeating Brazil with a single goal in the final of the U23 Copa America.
According to the “Mirror” newspaper, Messi could face pressure from one of the sponsors of the American league and the competition officials themselves to stay with his club. Meanwhile, the Copa America is scheduled to start on June 21, with the final match taking place on July 14 in Miami.
If Argentina reaches the final, Messi would then return to Inter Miami to participate in the League Cup, which starts on July 26. Inter Miami is also involved in the League Cup tournament, which begins on the same day as the start of the Olympic football competitions.
The Olympics are set to end on August 11, while the League Cup continues until August 25. Therefore, Messi could participate in the Olympics before returning for the knockout stages of the Cup. However, this situation may not be well-received by the Cup’s sponsoring company, which hopes for Messi’s presence throughout the tournament.
Lionel Messi’s career has seen a plethora of achievements and challenges. After a glorious tenure with FC Barcelona, where he became the club’s all-time top scorer and won numerous titles including 10 La Liga and 4 UEFA Champions League trophies, Messi moved to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). His time at PSG has been notable, with Messi winning the Ligue 1 title in his first season. The move to PSG came after Barcelona faced financial difficulties, making it impossible to renew Messi’s contract despite his willingness to stay.
Messi’s role and responsibilities have evolved significantly over his career. Initially known for his scoring prowess, Messi has transitioned into a more creative role, contributing significantly to Barcelona’s playmaking and ball progression. His ability to adapt and excel in various facets of the game highlights his football intelligence and creativity, making him a central figure in the teams he plays for.
