Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said on Friday that Jack Grealish’s home was robbed while the Premier League club was playing away to Everton earlier this week.
British media reported that thieves targeted Grealish’s mansion in Cheshire on Wednesday while his fiancée and family were inside, but they were not injured.
The thieves reportedly stole jewelry and watches worth £1 million (US$1.27 million).
Guardiola told reporters, “Fortunately, nothing happened to the family where they were.”
He added, “This is the nature of things nowadays, a lot of things happen. It was a bad moment for him and his family, but fortunately the people inside were not harmed.”
The thieves broke into Grealish’s mansion in Cheshire, triggering an alarm, and police responded with a helicopter, police dogs, and officers who arrived at the mansion but found no suspects.
The thieves reportedly stole jewelry and watches worth £1 million (US$1.2 million), and Grealish was informed of what happened after the match against Everton.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said, “At about 9:50 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, police were called to reports of a burglary.”
The spokesperson added, “The caller reported that a number of items had been stolen. Police officers, supported by police dogs and the National Police Air Service, attended and conducted searches of the area, but no trace of the suspects was found. No arrests have been made at this time and enquiries are ongoing.”
