French President Emmanuel Macron commented today, Monday, on the success of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In a press statement, he said, “We thwarted hundreds of activities that threatened security during the Olympics,” pointing out that the Paris 2024 Olympic Games were a success in terms of security, organization, sports, and popularity.
He added, “Many said that we were not capable of organizing the event (under the current political conditions), but we succeeded.”
Addressing the individuals and organizations behind the event, President Macron said that the Olympics showed the true face of France, and that the entire nation is indebted to them, considering that what was achieved was also an unprecedented security accomplishment.
Macron further stated, “France can achieve great things when united, and the only losers were the pessimists who expected organizational failure.”
In an interview published today by the French newspaper L’Équipe, a day after the conclusion of the Paris 2024 Olympics, he added, “There is a loser, and it is the spirit of defeat, all those who have been telling us for seven years that hosting the Olympics was madness.”
Olympics Opening Ceremony
Macron also mentioned those who believed that holding the opening ceremony on the River Seine was “unreasonable from a security standpoint,” those who doubted France’s ability to win a significant number of medals, and those who thought the Olympics would be a “money pit” and that the Seine couldn’t be cleaned in time to be ready for swimming and some competitions.
He concluded, “In the end, we succeeded in all of that. It is a great feeling, and it is the result of massive teamwork. It also proves that France is capable of achieving great things when united.”
