The Libyan Attorney General’s Office has issued an order to detain the head of the Social Solidarity Fund branch in Tripoli on charges related to human rights violations in 7 social care facilities in the capital.

In a statement, the Prosecutor General’s media office said that the investigative authority initiated public prosecution against perpetrators of human rights violations in 7 social care facilities in Tripoli.

The media office added that the Human Rights Department of the Attorney General’s Office conducted an inspection regarding mismanagement in social care institutions and the Social Solidarity Fund’s failure to comply with rights established by relevant legislation within its scope of work.

The inspection revealed instances of administrative and financial corruption that negatively affected the rights of groups covered by social care.

Following testimonies and questioning of the branch head regarding these incidents, the investigator ordered his pretrial detention pending further proceedings.
