President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Mnifi, called on the Non-Aligned Movement on Friday to adopt a unified stance supporting the full membership of Palestine in the United Nations. He considered that this approach would contribute to supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Al-Mnifi said during the 19th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Uganda that the Palestinian people are subjected to the most heinous massacres, suffering from displacement, land expropriation, and settlement. In this context, he commended the Non-Aligned Movement’s stances towards the Palestinian issue.

The President of the Presidential Council condemned what the Palestinian people are undergoing under occupation, saying: ‘The Palestinian issue is the issue of a people who have been under occupation for decades, a people facing the longest refugee crisis, the biggest protection crisis, and the most significant justice crisis in contemporary history, a people subjected to an attempt to uproot a nation with its ancient history and roots.’

The recent situation in Gaza has been marked by a series of intense and devastating events. According to Al Jazeera, the Israeli military’s attacks in Gaza have resulted in significant casualties. Over a 24-hour period, 135 Palestinians were killed and 312 wounded. The overall death toll in Gaza since October 7 has risen to 23,843, with more than 60,317 people wounded. An attack on a house in Rafah killed 14 Palestinians, including a two-year-old girl.

The United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution, drafted by the UAE, regarding the crisis in Gaza. Thirteen members voted in favor of the resolution, with the US and Russia abstaining. The resolution calls for urgent steps to allow safe, unhindered, and expanded humanitarian access and aims to create conditions for a sustainable cessation of hostilities.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza is dire, as highlighted by the UN. The UN World Food Programme and the UN relief agency for Palestinians (UNRWA) have expressed severe concerns about the threat of starvation and disease in densely populated areas of Gaza. An estimated 1.9 million Gazans have been displaced, some multiple times, and there are reports of widespread destruction of healthcare infrastructure.

As per Al Jazeera’s latest updates, nearly 25,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since the start of the war. There has been a near-total communications blackout in Gaza, and families have been combing through rubble for survivors after the attacks. Israeli forces have been engaged in direct clashes on the ground, and there have been reports of air force strikes on several occasions against Palestinian fighters
