Abdullah Bliheg, the spokesperson for the Libyan House of Representatives, announced that the parliament unanimously voted in its official session on Tuesday to terminate the mandate of the executive authority in Tripoli, which was established during the transitional phase.
The parliament also recognized Osama Hamad’s government as the legitimate government until a unified government is selected. Bliheg explained that the parliament decided to appoint the Speaker of the House of Representatives as the Supreme Commander of the Libyan Army, in accordance with the constitutional declaration and related parliamentary decisions.
The session was adjourned until next Monday.
Earlier, Speaker of the House Aguila Saleh stated that 50 deputies had submitted a memorandum to end the mandate of Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh’s government, recognizing the government appointed by the House of Representatives, led by Osama Hamad, as the legitimate one.
Saleh called for serious efforts to form a unified authority capable of dismantling centralization, ending its overreach, and dividing the country into provinces, each with the right to manage the affairs of its residents and receive budgets based on population size, area, and resource distribution.
In his speech during Tuesday’s session, he emphasized that “the demand of the House of Representatives to unify the authority and include everyone comes from a commitment to the unity of the country, ending conflict, resolving the crisis, and achieving a fair distribution of wealth so that Libyans in cities, villages, and the three regions enjoy equal rights. Unified authority is essential to dismantle the geography of conflict and bring it to an end.”
