The President of the Libyan House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, urged the Arab Parliament to demand an investigation into the human rights violations committed by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip.
He also called on the Security Council to be more transparent and to alleviate pressure on smaller states to prevent the international organization from losing its role in maintaining international peace and security.
Speaking at the sixth conference of Arab parliamentary speakers in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday, Saleh condemned the heinous acts committed by Israeli soldiers against innocent civilians in Gaza.
He criticized the use of the latest and deadliest weapons, portraying them as self-defense, while neglecting the defense of a people whose land and freedom have been seized.
Saleh emphasized the international community’s double standard and selective approach to the Palestinian issue and human rights.
He highlighted the discrepancy between swift condemnation and legal action when it comes to individual criminal cases and the muted response to the killing of thousands of women and children, destruction of homes, mass burials, and hospital demolitions, all justified as self-defense.
He praised the heroic struggles of the Palestinian people and their sacrifices for freedom, urging diplomatic action and monitoring of the implementation of legitimate human rights principles through mechanisms that ensure respect for international humanitarian law.
