The Head of Libya’s outgoing Government of National Unity (GNU) Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed held discussions on joint cooperation during their visit to Beijing, China.
A statement posted on Dbaiba’s media office’s Facebook page reported that the meeting addressed various cooperation files between the two nations and explored ways to strengthen their collaboration.
The statement highlighted that both leaders reviewed international efforts aimed at stabilizing Libya and facilitating elections.
They also expressed support for the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) in its political endeavours. Furthermore, the meeting covered economic and developmental cooperation across several sectors.
On the sidelines of the 10th session of the Ministerial Meeting of the Arab-China Cooperation Forum in Beijing, Dbaiba also held consultations with Arab leaders and foreign ministers.
Meanwhile, Chinese Premier Li Qiang welcomed Dbaiba and his delegation at the presidential headquarters in Beijing.
The office of the Libyan Prime Minister reported that the two leaders held extensive discussions on several mutual interests.
Key topics included the reopening of the Chinese embassy in Tripoli, China’s efforts towards this goal, the return of Chinese companies to complete their contracted projects, the exchange of prisoners between the two nations, and the implementation of targeted investment projects in Libya.
Premier Li Qiang emphasized China’s commitment to reopening its embassy in Tripoli, citing the stability brought about by the efforts of Libya’s Government of National Unity. He noted that numerous Asian embassies have resumed operations in the Libyan capital.
Li also expressed China’s and its companies’ keen interest in participating in Libya’s ongoing reconstruction efforts.
