Mohamed Menfi, head of Libya’s Presidential Council, participated in the opening of the seventh Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Summit in Algiers, Algeria, on Saturday.

Invited by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Menfi’s presence signifies Libya’s active role in shaping the future of global gas cooperation.

The summit aims to foster a unified vision among member countries, enhancing their collaborative efforts in managing shared gas resources.

This collaboration is pivotal for supporting the sovereign rights of member states and contributing to sustainable development.

Amidst global market tensions, especially after the onset of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the summit also seeks to address the anticipated increase in gas demand this year.

The GECF, comprising 12 permanent members, including Algeria, Libya, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, the UAE, and Venezuela, plus seven observer members, holds over 70% of the world’s proven gas reserves, representing 51% of global liquefied natural gas exports.
