In Tehran, Iran’s Foreign Minister and Libya’s Foreign Minister reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and condemned disrespect for the Holy Quran. The meeting took place today, Tuesday, and marked the first visit of a Libyan Foreign Minister to Tehran under the current Iranian administration.
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran’s Foreign Minister, and Najla Al-Mangoush, Libya’s Foreign Minister, discussed various dimensions of bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments. Amir-Abdollahian expressed his satisfaction with the restoration of security and stability in Libya, declaring Iran’s readiness to expand relations with Libya and assist in the country’s reconstruction efforts.
This visit holds significant weight considering the previous Libyan Foreign Minister visited Tehran in September 2013 to participate in the Non-Aligned Movement summit. During this meeting, Iran’s diplomatic head highlighted the status of women in Iran, criticizing the West’s dual policies and political exploitation of women’s rights issues.
Amir-Abdollahian condemned the recent demeaning actions in Sweden and Denmark disrespecting the Holy Quran, emphasizing the importance of unity and solidarity among Islamic nations worldwide in this regard.
Libya’s Foreign Minister, El-Mangoush, expressed her pleasure during the meeting for visiting Tehran after nearly 17 years since the last high-ranking Libyan official visited Iran. She said, “This visit demonstrates the desire of both countries to develop mutual relations.”
Following the visit, we observed the dispatch of the Libyan ambassador to Tehran, the reopening of the Iranian embassy in Tripoli, and the Iranian diplomatic delegation headed by Einollah Souri reopening the Iranian embassy in Libya. As previously stated by Foreign Ministry Spokesman Naser Kanani, the individual who will take charge of Iran’s embassy has also been determined.
Iran’s and Libya’s Foreign Ministers agreed on Tuesday’s meeting to foster cooperation in various fields, including activating the joint high commission, forming a political advisory committee, enhancing economic and trade relations, scientific and technological cooperation, and organizing specialized exhibitions.
