The security leadership of the Ministry of Interior, under the authority of the Libyan Parliament-appointed government led by Osama Hamad, held an extensive meeting on Tuesday in Benghazi to discuss strategies for enhancing the fight against drug trafficking and increasing security presence in the southern region of the country.

The meeting was chaired by the Interior Minister, Major General Essam Abu Zariba, and included key figures such as the Head of the Drug and Narcotics Control Authority, Major General Adel Abdulaziz, the Director of the General Desert Patrols Administration, Major General Salah Al-Khafifi, and the Director of the Central Support Administration, Major General Rafiq Al-Barghathi.

According to the Ministry of Interior’s media office, the meeting concentrated on the current security conditions in the eastern and southern regions. Participants provided a comprehensive assessment of the ongoing situation, highlighting key security challenges and potential threats that could impact public safety.

During the session, discussions covered the need for enhanced security in southern Libya, addressing issues such as drug smuggling, illegal immigration, and border control.

The meeting emphasized the importance of developing effective strategies to strengthen border security and tackle smuggling activities to protect the country’s national borders.

The ministry also discussed ways to support security directorates in the southern region by providing necessary resources, both human and material, to improve security operations.

The attendees agreed on the need for a coordinated security strategy across all departments of the ministry to boost the effectiveness of law enforcement efforts in the south.

Interior Minister Abu Zariba underscored the urgency of implementing the decisions made during the meeting, stressing the importance of collaborative efforts and effective coordination among various security bodies to achieve the desired security objectives.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing all necessary resources to support security forces in maintaining stability and law enforcement across the country.
