Libya’s Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, announced the arrest of the main architect and leader behind the bombing of the Foreign Ministry, the High National Elections Commission, and the National Oil Corporation buildings in 2018.

In his televised address on Thursday evening, PM Dbeibah revealed that the individual detained is a prominent figure within the ISIS organization, who was deeply implicated in planning and orchestrating several suicidal terrorist operations targeting various government facilities in the capital, Tripoli, in 2018.

During his address, Dbeibah emphasized that this significant arrest, involving the terrorist mastermind behind these grievous attacks that targeted the High National Elections Commission, the Foreign Ministry, and the National Oil Corporation, was made possible due to a meticulously executed security operation carried out by the Deterrence Force for Combatting Terrorism and the “Rahba Shield” Battalion in Tajoura.

The prime minister noted that the operation was the result of a well-coordinated intelligence plan and extensive surveillance. He reaffirmed his government’s unwavering resolve in combating terrorism in all its forms and vowed to prosecute everyone proven to be involved in crimes against the Libyan people.

In a related development, the “Deterrence Force” specified in a statement that the ISIS leader, Tarek Anwar Abdullah, also known as “Abu Issa,” is the person charged with plotting and executing these terrorist operations targeting state institutions in 2018.

To recall, on May 2, 2018, two gunmen attacked the staff of the High National Elections Commission and subsequently detonated their explosives, resulting in the death and injury of more than 20 individuals and extensively damaging the building. The notorious extremist group ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack.
