Libyan Presidential Council Head Mohamed al-Menfi arrived in Algeria on Wednesday for an official visit to enhance cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
During the visit, al-Menfi is set to meet with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to discuss key issues of mutual interest, further solidifying the partnership between Libya and Algeria.
The leaders are expected to address several topics, particularly those related to security, regional stability, and economic cooperation.
One significant area of focus is likely to be the shared concern over illegal migration, which has posed a challenge for North African nations.
In a previous meeting in April, al-Menfi, Tebboune, and Tunisian President Kais Saied agreed to cooperate on combating the risks associated with illegal migration.
They pledged to unify their positions and messaging on the issue to better manage its impact on their countries.
This trilateral agreement included the formation of joint task forces to coordinate efforts aimed at securing their shared borders from illegal migration and other organized crime activities.
Additionally, the three leaders expressed a commitment to working together with other concerned nations in the Mediterranean and Sub-Saharan Africa to tackle the growing migration crisis.
They emphasized the need for a unified approach when engaging with regional and international partners on this pressing issue, highlighting the importance of collective action in safeguarding regional security.
Libya and Algeria share deep historical and political ties, with both countries playing significant roles in regional diplomacy and security.
The ongoing political instability in Libya, coupled with the broader security challenges in the region, including terrorism and human trafficking, has underscored the need for enhanced cooperation. Al-Menfi’s visit is part of ongoing efforts by both governments to foster closer collaboration in addressing these challenges, ensuring stability in North Africa.
This visit comes at a critical time as both countries seek to bolster security, support economic development, and address transnational issues such as migration. Strengthening Libyan-Algerian ties is viewed as a key element in promoting peace and stability across the broader region.
