Jordanian King Abdullah II emphasized the need for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, highlighting the role of the international community in advocating for this outcome. This statement was made during a meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he met with governors from both the Republican and Democratic parties to discuss regional developments and the critical situation in Gaza, as well as ways to enhance economic cooperation between Jordan and their states across various sectors, according to the Jordanian news agency Petra on Saturday.
King Abdullah stressed the importance of intensifying humanitarian aid to Gaza and ensuring its safe and continuous delivery to different areas of the sector. He warned of the perilous conditions in the West Bank, which could lead to a broader conflict in the region if they persist.
The meeting also addressed the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States, and mechanisms to expand cooperation between Jordan and various states, leveraging each state’s expertise, especially in sectors central to Jordan’s economic modernization vision. The discussion included Jordan’s strengths and opportunities in agriculture, food security, water management, energy, mining, industry, technical education, tourism, entrepreneurship, healthcare, trade, logistics, and urban planning.
Since the outbreak of the war on October 7, Jordan has been actively supporting Gaza through various humanitarian efforts. King Abdullah II of Jordan has emphasized the urgent need for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza and highlighted the international community’s role in advocating for peace. He has been vocal about the dangers of escalating violence, not just in Gaza but potentially across the region, including the West Bank.
Jordan’s response to the crisis in Gaza has included significant humanitarian assistance. The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) has dispatched 34 aid planes and 188 trucks loaded with humanitarian and medical supplies to Gaza since the war began. This initiative is part of a broader effort to alleviate the suffering caused by the conflict and to ensure continuous support reaches the Gazan population.
Moreover, the Jordanian Armed Forces have conducted multiple airdrops into Gaza, aiming to deliver crucial supplies to those in need. These operations reflect Jordan’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian people under dire circumstances. The total number of airdrops carried out since the beginning of the conflict includes both those made solely by Jordan and in collaboration with other nations.
