Renowned Kuwaiti journalist, Fajr Al-Saeed, has highlighted the absence of Prince Hamzah bin Al-Hussein, the half-brother of Jordan’s monarch, King Abdullah II, from the wedding of the Crown Prince, Prince Hussein bin Abdullah, and Saudi national Rajwa Al-Saif, on Thursday, June 1, 2023.
In a tweet, Al-Saeed expressed her perspective, stating, “From my point of view, the smartest Arab leaders are Prince Mohammed bin Salman, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, and King Abdullah II of Jordan. If the three cooperate, utilizing their God-given intelligence, I envision a new Middle East emerging, but in our own way, not theirs.”
She further added, “Today, during the wedding of the young Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah, as he toured the streets among the people, waving his hands in joy for their love, which they reciprocated by expressing their joy in seeing him and blessing his marriage, it further increased the popularity of Hussein at the expense of any ambitious individual. Jordanians, who truly love, remain loyal to their ruler until the end. Our role model is the late King Hussein, may Allah have mercy on him.”
Continuing her remarks, Al-Saeed noted, “King Abdullah did not stop there. With the presence of these prominent leaders, he delivered a clear message to anyone who dared to think of jeopardizing Jordan’s security and safety that their hands would be cut off before they even moved.
The attendance of the Crown Prince of Great Britain, the First Lady of the United States, and the televised blessings of the U.S. President, as well as the insistence of Gulf leaders on sending representatives commensurate with the age of the Jordanian Crown Prince, all these guests from the emerging powers in East Asia, are diplomatic messages wrapped in the Majesty’s smile, which I heard clearly, even though he did not utter a word.”
It is worth noting that Jordan’s monarch, King Abdullah II, had approved the decisions and measures presented to him by the Royal Family Council against Prince Hamzah bin Al-Hussein, which were submitted on December 23, 2022.
In a statement at the time, King Abdullah stated, “I have decided to approve the recommendation of the Council formed under the Royal Family Law, to restrict the communications, residency, and movements of Prince Hamzah, as presented by the Council to us since the twenty-third of last December. I had chosen to delay my approval to give my brother Hamzah an opportunity for self-reflection and to return to the right path.”
The Jordanian monarch further expressed, “I, and members of our family, have tried to help him break free from the constraints that he has imposed upon himself, in order for him to be an active member of our family, serving Jordan and the Jordanian people.
“We offered him various roles and responsibilities to serve our nation, but he responded to all of that with ill intentions and doubts. He has only offered complaints and clichéd slogans, never coming up with a practical solution or proposal to deal with any of the problems facing our beloved homeland”, the King said.
The only proposal Prince Hamzah offered was the unification of the intelligence agencies of our armed forces under his command.” King Abdullah rejected Prince Hamzah’s request, stating that it was “illogical and contradicted the system of our armed forces’ operations.”
