In an official statement released on their website today, the Jordanian military announced the successful thwarting of an attempted infiltration and drug smuggling operation from Syria on Wednesday evening.

The statement detailed that the Eastern Military Zone, in coordination with military security services and the Anti-Narcotics Department, disrupted the smuggling of substantial quantities of narcotics originating from Syrian territories.

The operation was part of ongoing efforts to secure Jordan’s borders against escalating smuggling activities.

Following intensified search and inspection procedures, the military located and seized the narcotics, which were subsequently handed over to the relevant authorities. The specifics of the seizure were not disclosed.

The Jordanian Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment to leveraging all capabilities to prevent infiltration and smuggling attempts forcefully, aiming to maintain the kingdom’s security and stability.

Over the past years, Jordan has witnessed a sharp increase in smuggling and infiltration attempts from the north due to deteriorating security conditions in Syria.

Recently, these operations have become more frequent and organized, occasionally involving drones and armed protection, leading to armed confrontations between smugglers and Jordanian troops.

In response, Jordan has occasionally deployed its air force to target these organized smuggling groups and shoot down their drones, as part of its broader strategy to combat cross-border crime.
