Jordan’s King Abdullah II issued a warning on Tuesday against the possibility of a refugee influx from the Gaza Strip, which is currently under severe Israeli bombardment, towards Jordan and Egypt.

During a press conference following his meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, King Abdullah II stated, “This is a red line because I believe the plan of some suspects is an attempt to create a fait accompli. No refugees in Jordan, and no refugees in Egypt.”

The Jordanian monarch also cautioned that thousands of innocent Palestinians are at risk if the war on Gaza is not halted, pointing out that its continuation could lead the entire region into a new spiral of violence.

According to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), King Abdullah, during his meeting with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin on Monday, highlighted the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza due to shortages of food, water, and medicine. He emphasized the importance of sustaining the medical sector to provide urgent services for treating Palestinian patients and the injured.

King Abdullah reiterated that attempts at forced displacement of Palestinians and causing their displacement are unacceptable and would lead the region into another catastrophe and a new cycle of violence and destruction.

He also stressed the importance of respecting international law and international humanitarian law in protecting civilians and condemning their targeting.
King Abdullah of Jordan emphasized the necessity of working to find a political horizon that ensures opportunities for achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution and international legitimate resolutions.

King Abdullah II’s warnings and statements come amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza, where Israeli airstrikes have resulted in significant civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure. His stance reaffirms Jordan’s commitment to preventing a refugee crisis in the region and calls for an end to the violence through diplomatic means.

The king’s emphasis on upholding international law and humanitarian principles reflects broader international concerns about the situation in Gaza and the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
