The Jordanian Armed Forces successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle drugs into the country using a drone along the southern military zone on Tuesday.
According to the military, border guards, in collaboration with military security and the Anti-Narcotics Department, intercepted the drone as it attempted to illegally cross the western border. The rules of engagement were applied, and the drone’s cargo was seized within Jordanian territory.
The confiscated drugs have been handed over to the appropriate authorities. This operation is part of Jordan’s ongoing efforts to combat drug smuggling, particularly with the use of modern technology such as drones, which have become more frequent in smuggling operations.
This incident highlights Jordan’s broader fight against drug trafficking, especially along its border with Syria, where smugglers have taken advantage of the Syrian conflict to increase the illegal drug trade, primarily targeting Gulf countries with substances like Captagon. Jordanian authorities have been ramping up their security efforts, often clashing with smugglers and using advanced technology to prevent narcotics from entering the kingdom.
