Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi stated that “Israel will not stop its crimes in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon unless Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his extremist ministers are held accountable.” He expressed this in a post on the ‘X’ platform on Saturday, emphasizing that Netanyahu and his ministers could not have carried out these assaults, including against UNIFIL units, without the impunity provided by the international community and the weapons supplied to Tel Aviv by various countries.
A year after the war and the massacres and ethnic cleansing in Gaza, with thousands displaced, killed, and injured in the West Bank and Lebanon, including journalists, humanitarian workers, and Lebanese soldiers and UNIFIL members, Safadi argues that the Security Council has no excuse for not fulfilling its duties. He called for the lifting of Israel’s immunity and a ban on all arms sales to the country, stating that “countries that truly wish to end the serious regional escalation and seek peace and security in the Middle East must immediately stop supplying Israel with weapons used in its aggression.”
Safadi stressed the importance of forcing Israel to comply with international law and immediately end all its illegal wars. He mentioned that without this, the Israeli government would undermine the credibility of international law and institutions and drag the region into a comprehensive regional war, whose impact would be felt far beyond the Middle East’s borders.
Jordan has been actively involved in diplomatic efforts to address the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinian territories, including Gaza, the West Bank, and the broader regional tensions involving Lebanon. The Jordanian government has taken a firm stance against Israeli actions in these areas, emphasizing the need for Israel to be held accountable to prevent further crimes in the region. Jordan’s approach includes calling for international sanctions against Israel and lifting immunity to curb the escalation of violence.
Jordan has also been instrumental in rallying Arab cooperation to support the Palestinians and has been working closely with Egypt on initiatives to mediate and calm tensions between the Palestinians and Israelis. The Jordanian efforts are not just limited to political maneuvers but also encompass substantial humanitarian support for the Palestinians, demonstrating a balanced strategy of active diplomacy coupled with on-ground support for humanitarian needs.
The Jordanian public and government have expressed strong opposition to the normalization of relations with Israel, reflecting a deep-seated solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
