Jordan’s King Abdullah II hosted a meeting with the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee at Al-Husseiniya Palace in Amman.
The committee was assigned the task of spearheading international efforts to halt the ongoing war in Gaza. Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II also attended the session, which focused on coordinating a unified regional approach to the escalating crisis.
The delegation, led by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, included senior officials such as Palestinian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, Egyptian Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Nabil Habshi, and Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit, as well as Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Hussein Ibrahim Taha.
During the meeting, King Abdullah urged the delegation to intensify efforts to secure an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza.
He emphasized the need for increased humanitarian aid to the besieged population, warning of the catastrophic consequences of continued Israeli military action. The monarch also voiced concerns over the escalating violence in the West Bank, stressing that Israeli attacks in the region threaten not only local stability but also broader regional security.
The ministerial delegation also held a coordination meeting to strategize their collective response to the Gaza situation. This session, chaired by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, was part of preparations for the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), set to take place in New York later this month.
The ministers discussed key priorities for the upcoming UNGA session, including efforts to secure international recognition of the Palestinian state and address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. They also focused on the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict, reaffirming the importance of implementing a two-state solution based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine. This remains a core objective in line with the Arab Peace Initiative and international resolutions.
The meeting reflected a concerted effort by Arab and Islamic nations to galvanize international support for a peaceful resolution to the Gaza crisis and ensure that aid reaches all affected areas. The participants highlighted the critical need for diplomacy and solidarity in these efforts.
The gathering was also attended by key diplomats, including Saudi Ambassador to Jordan Naif Al-Sudairi and senior officials from the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event underscored the strong regional commitment to addressing the escalating violence and advancing a sustainable solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
