On Wednesday morning, northern Israel witnessed sirens wailing as barrages of rockets were launched towards the border communities of Netua, Manara, and the town of Safed, situated just 14 km (9 miles) south of the frontier. One Israeli soldier lost their life, and seven others sustained injuries when rockets struck their base in Safed.
The deceased soldier was identified as Staff-Sergeant Omer Sarah Benjo. A video captured the harrowing moment when another rocket landed dangerously close to the entrance of Safed’s hospital. The attack prompted an immediate response from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
In response to the rocket fire, the Israeli forces announced that fighter jets had carried out strikes on multiple Hezbollah targets. The airstrikes targeted locations in Souaneh, Aadchit, Jabal al-Braij, Kfar Houneh, and Kfar Dunin. The swift military response came after Hezbollah claimed responsibility for attacking an “enemy position” in Safed, asserting its support for the people and resistance in Gaza facing what it termed as “brutal Zionist aggression.”
The developments highlight the heightened tensions in the region and the complex dynamics involving various actors. The situation remains fluid, with concerns of further escalations prompting international attention and diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict.
