Abu Obeida, the spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, revealed that an Israeli prisoner was killed by a guard assigned to monitor him, while two other female hostages were seriously injured in Gaza.
In a statement, Abu Obeida said, “In two separate incidents, guards responsible for overseeing the prisoners opened fire, killing an Israeli prisoner instantly and severely injuring two female hostages. Efforts are being made to save their lives.”
The statement also held “the Israeli government fully responsible for these massacres and the resulting reactions that affect the lives of the captives.”
Israel Yet to Confirm
Meanwhile, Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari stated that the Israeli army currently has no information regarding the reported death of an Israeli prisoner held in Gaza.
Hagari commented on Hamas’ claim that a prisoner was killed by his guard and two female hostages were critically injured, saying on his “X” platform page, “At this time, we do not have any intelligence that allows us to either refute or confirm Hamas’ allegations.”
The Hamas statement, posted on Telegram, did not specify the identities of the hostages or the location and date of the incidents.
Before this announcement, 111 hostages were still held in Gaza, with 39 confirmed dead, according to the Israeli army.
250 Prisoners
Israel launched a military campaign against Gaza after Hamas militants infiltrated southern Israel on October 7th, in an attack that Israeli statistics indicate killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and led to the capture of more than 250 hostages.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health reported that nearly 40,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli assault on Gaza since then.
