Members of the Israeli government coalition expressed concerns on Sunday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu might be a target of an assassination attempt following the recent shooting of former US President Donald Trump.
Diaspora Minister Amichai Chiklis linked the attempt on Trump’s life to a campaign of incitement and delegitimization, noting a similar campaign against Netanyahu, allegedly protected by the attorney general and law enforcement. “In Israel, there is an identical campaign against Prime Minister Netanyahu,” Chiklis posted on X.
Settlement Minister Orit Strook voiced her concerns about credible threats against Netanyahu, calling for immediate action. “There is incitement to attack Netanyahu and nothing is being done,” she said. Strook requested a government meeting for a full report from security officials and law enforcement.
Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi described the situation as “doubly grave,” citing serious incitement against Netanyahu and his family. He criticized the attorney general and prosecution for their perceived inaction, saying their silence encourages the inciters.
