In a significant development, the Israeli army radio confirmed on Tuesday the existence of an agreement for a temporary ceasefire in Gaza, set to last between 4 and 6 days.
The extension of the ceasefire hinges on the release of additional hostages, and Hamas is actively engaged in efforts to determine their whereabouts during the initial days of the truce.
Khalil al-Hayya, the deputy of Hamas leader in Gaza, addressed the media, stating, “We are still awaiting the occupation’s response regarding the humanitarian truce agreement.”
Qatar, a key player in the negotiations, announced on Tuesday that talks for the release of hostages in the Gaza Strip are “never been closer to a conclusion.”
Hamas outlined the terms of the temporary ceasefire, including “a total suspension of Israeli flights over Gaza, except in the northern areas where Israel will limit flights to six hours daily.”
As part of the agreement, 300 trucks carrying essential supplies such as food, medical aid, and fuel will be permitted into “all regions of the Gaza Strip.” Additionally, Hamas reported that Israeli hostages will be released gradually, with ten being freed each day.
The temporary ceasefire holds promise for de-escalation in the ongoing conflict, providing a brief respite amid heightened tensions. The duration of the truce remains flexible, contingent on further developments in the negotiations and the successful resolution of hostage-related issues.
