On Monday, the Israeli military called on the residents of the eastern neighbourhoods in Khan Yunis to temporarily evacuate to a modified humanitarian zone in Mawasi, amid warnings of a major military operation in the area.
The statement released by the Israeli army highlighted the need for evacuation due to significant terrorist activities and missile launches targeting Israel from the eastern part of the humanitarian zone in the Gaza Strip.
“Due to significant terrorist activity and rockets being fired towards the state of Israel from the eastern part of the humanitarian zone in Gaza, staying in this area has become dangerous,” the military stated.
The modification of the humanitarian zone is based on precise intelligence indicating that Hamas has established terrorist infrastructure within the designated humanitarian area.
The army emphasized that the early warning to civilians aims to minimize harm and keep civilians away from combat zones.
“The Israeli Defense Forces are about to conduct a military operation against terrorist organizations, hence the call for the remaining residents of the eastern neighbourhoods of Khan Yunis to temporarily relocate to the adjusted humanitarian area in Mawasi,” the statement added.
The Israeli military also mentioned that evacuation appeals were sent to the residents via SMS, phone calls, and Arabic-language media broadcasts.
The statement concluded, “The Israeli military will continue its operations against the Hamas terrorist organization, which uses civilians in Gaza as human shields for its terrorist activities and infrastructure.”
