The Israeli military reported that an aerial attack targeted the Red Sea city of Eilat on Monday, causing no injuries. An Iran-backed armed group in Iraq has claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to a military statement, a flying object launched from east of Israel struck a building in Eilat.
The statement did not specify the type of object launched towards Eilat but noted that the attack triggered warning sirens, although the Israeli air defenses did not intercept it.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq stated in a release that it attacked a “vital target” in Israel using “appropriate weapons,” without providing further details.
Eilat has been subjected to repeated attacks with rockets and drones from the Houthis in Israel Reports Aerial Attack on Eilat, as part of the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas that has lasted for about six months.
In November, Israel reported that a group in Syria launched a drone targeting the city of Eilat.
The Israeli military announced on Monday that 600 of its soldiers have been killed since October 7, the date of the attack launched by Hamas on southern Israel, which led to the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip.
On its website, the military confirmed that “Nadav Cohen (20 years old) from Haifa was killed during the battles in the southern Gaza Strip,” raising the total number of soldiers killed inside Israel and the Palestinian territories to 600 since October 7, 2023, according to the French Press Agency.
Since the October 7 attack, Israeli forces have been conducting offensive military operations against Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip and began ground operations in the sector since October 27.
